Artist Statement
My work begins with an idea and a simple sketch. Then I start cutting shapes from fiberboard and wood solids. I lay out everything using my sketch as a rough guide but modifications, sometimes major ones, are typically effected. Paint is applied by sponge and brush in several coats so as to create texture and subtle color. Elements rise above the surface to reveal depth and shadows. Also, I like to combine a variety of patterns and planes which, I believe, adds interest and a certain tension to the design.
