Artist Statement
Pamela Day creates one-of-a-kind ceramic figurative sculptures - each unique character has its own attitude and expression. Each calls for its own finish beyond the oxide-stain that initially emphasizes all character's detail, texture, and expression - surfaces may be subtly treated with her 'scumbling' technique used to create depth of color and skin tones with colored pencils; others may be painted with gouache; some traditional glaze techniques, or may be accented of metallic wax patina. Her characters vary in size from her smallest 'thumb' size characters, to wall-mounted heads, or as stand-alone busts or torsos.
