2013 ART ACTIVITY ZONE


Spend time at the Fair creating your own works of art in the Art Activity Zone. Located on Ingalls Mall, off of Washington Street between Thayer and Fletcher, this area is open Wed-Sat., 11am – 6pm.


The following kid-friendly art projects are open to all ages and free to the public.

Bold Paper Flowers

Wednesday through Saturday
11am - 6pm

Create a beautiful paper flower using colorful tissue paper, fuzzy pipe cleaners, buttons and pom-poms.  Enjoy walking around the fair adorned as a summer garden or hand it to your favorite friend.

 

Make a Sculptural Relief
By: Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit (MOCAD)
 Wednesday through Saturday
11am - 6pm

Create a contemporary sculpture out of reclaimed, recycled and found objects. Stations will be set up that will encourage and challenge families to work together to make extraordinary sculptural relief.



Bubble Wands Made by YOU!

11am - 6pm

Bubbles at the Fair! Design simple wire bubble wands decorated with beads or create a more complex star, heart, or flower shape. All ages are encouraged to participate! Bubble solution will be provided to try out your creation.



Animal Dress-up: Things with Wings!

Have you ever imagined what it would be like to fly? At the U of M Museum of Natural History booth you can get a chance to make your own animal wings! Whether you want to fly like a prehistoric animal, insect, bird, or bat; we have the wings just for you.  Discover how these amazing animals can fly, then get the chance to decorate your own wings and fly your way through the Ann Arbor Art Fair!

 

Calling all Fairies, Wizards, and Princesses!

Abra-cazaam! Make your very own wand!  The folks here have everything you need to spread a little fairy dust or cast a spell like a powerful sorcerer. Don’t forget to pick up your free kids ticket so you can experience the Renaissance Festival for yourself.

 

Masquerade: Turn Yourself Inside Out

Be a designer for the day!  Let your visionary talent be known at the Ann Arbor Art Fair by designing and decorating your very own mask. Celebrate individuality by turning yourself inside out and collaging a personalized mask with magazine clippings and craft materials. Don’t hide what makes you unique; design a mask that reflects the inner you!


Hand Build or Wheel Throw Clay

Explore the world of ceramics through a hands-on building experience or try your hand at throwing on the wheel.   Presented by Sugar Hill Clay, a new community ceramic studio located in the Sugar Hill Arts District of Midtown Detroit.  Items may be fired and picked-up at Sugar Hill Clay.  Clay donated by Rovin Ceramics a Motawi Company.

 

Fantasy Face Painting

Award-winning clowns, Derby and Lovely, come armed with their paint and favorite brushes!  Kids can let their imagination soar and be transformed into a tiger, butterfly, superhero, fairy or anything else their minds can dream of.
