Artist Statement
My work constantly references the thrill of seeing stones beautifully - and asymmetrically - arranged by waves on the beach. I never tire of spotting an jumbled pile of refuse in the alley behind my studio casting beautiful shadows in the sunshine. In my Talisman Pendant series I pay tribute to the spatial relationships of the junk in the alley or the piles of beach stones, both by a literal use of found beach stones, but also in the balanced asymmetric stacking, or the opportunity to cast a shadow with my constructed silver forms. Though not formally trained and perhaps lacking in the descriptive language of artistic self criticism, I hope to convey my reverence for both the random beauty of natural world and the everyday sights that can unintentionally animate the human world, constructed and scaled for personal adornment. I use precious gems, fragile pearls, rough found stones and both shiny bright silver and dark oxidized silver to convey my perspective.
