Artist Statement
While growing up in rural Indiana my family taught me to have an appreciation for the woods and environment around me. Sometimes knowledge was shared by helping my grandparents raise chickens and plant their garden, other times it was bird watching with my grandmother. I use these memories as inspiration for my ceramic work and use a technique called sgraffito, a reductive process of carving the surface of clay to create an image.
